Gender Mainstreaming and Harmful Practices
Action Family Foundation recognizes that education is strategic to the liberation of
persons and communities. Gender mainstreaming is a concept that AFF promotes without severing the authentic roles of men and women, boys and girls, husbands and wives in the lives of individuals, families and groups in the right order; gender complementarity. Issues addressed include female genital cutting, widowhood rites, wife inheritance, prostitution, human trafficking, pornography, domestic violence and premature marriage.
Family Life Education and Therapy
Family life is ordered for the individual and common good as it provides the optimal environment for personal growth and development on which the normal functioning of society hinges. “The future of Humanity depends on the Family”. This profound wisdom of one of the world’s recent legends, Pope John Paul II, provides a veritable motivation for AFF’s mission. Strengthening the basic cell of society ultimately ensures a better human community.

Marriage between a man and woman in a permanent covenantal bond is central to
family life. Marriage preparation services are provided to intending couples in religious and community formations. Presentation topics include spouse care through the life cycle, parenting techniques, home-based sexuality and chastity education, HIV prevention through abstinence and fidelity and family-centred care and support.
Youth Development for Self-Efficiency Action Family Foundation works to empower young people through awareness creation and emotional literacy with emphasis on character development and entrepreneurial creativity. AFF applies the directive pedagogic methodology to promote self-mastery, positive values and culturally adequate messages for youth as realistic strategy for preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV, unplanned pregnancy, and their complications. We work to assist young people especially women with improved access to training on business development and linkages to expanding market opportunities.
Care of the Elderly
We desire to mainstream the plight of older persons in local and national development agenda. As general health and living conditions improve, Africans are living longer and so contributing to the emerging “age-quake” phenomenon. This phenomenon underscores the unpreparedness of communities for the many health and care challenges and needs of the elderly persons as longevity and life expectancy improves. Our organization is privileged to collaborate with other NGOs and faith-based organizations to awaken Africans in this noble aspect of social work.
Crisis Pregnancy Management
AFF upholds the fundamental and in alienable right of all human beings to life. In promoting this “culture of life”, our organization is not unmindful of the fact that circumstances may render the conception, birth and rearing of a child tumultuous. Therefore, for teenagers unwed pregnancies (unplanned or crisis pregnancy), AFF intervenes to provide psychological, financial and rehabilitative support. We promote adoption and foster-parenting as ethical and viable options against abortion for any reasons whatsoever (cf. Mother Theresa of Calcutta).
The Association of African Families
This is a network of over 100 NGOs, FBOs and CBOs that promote the rights and functions of the African family. In addition to being the coordinating NGO, AFF serves as resource organization for a large number of student bodies from across Nigeria, and the Association members. Schools, religious groups and communities frequently contact AFF and the Association for technical facilitation, information, education and communication materials or strategic input to their HIV, teen pregnancy prevention programmes and youth development activities.
